Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get an estimate?

You can call, email, text or send us a Facebook message. If you are sending a text, email or message please let us know how many doors and drawers you have. You should also include a picture of your kitchen layout. You may use the free estimate button on our website to contact us via email. Our estimates are good for 90 days.

How long does it take to paint our cabinets, will you paint the doors/drawer fronts on site?

Depending on the size of your kitchen we can have your Kitchen done in 3-7 days. We remove the doors and paint them off-site at our shop.

Will I have access to my kitchen during the process?

Yes, you will have access to your kitchen. The only time you will not have access is when we are prepping and painting your kitchen. We will remove all masking after we have painted your cabinet boxes. This is usually on day 1 of the process. Your kitchen will not have doors or drawer fronts for a few days.

Do I need to remove items from my cabinets and drawers?

No, you do not need to remove anything from inside your cabinets and drawers. The only thing we ask is that you remove any large items from your counter tops.

What type of paint do you use?

We are one of the only companies in the Detroit metro area using a Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturing Association (KCMA) approved finish. We use a water based lacquer. Our finish gives off very low VOC’s and is dry to the touch in 15-30 minutes.

Will you spray or brush and roll?

We spray all our kitchens. This includes the doors, drawers and cabinet boxes.

Do you spray the inside of the cabinets?

No, in most cases we do not spray inside. We do make exceptions for glass paneled cabinet doors.

Do you paint the cabinet sides next to appliances?

No, we do not. If you would like the sides next to appliances painted please remove appliances to another room.

The sides of my cabinets are laminate, will your finish stick?

Absolutely! The Primer we use allows our lacquer to adhere very well to all surfaces.

I have oak cabinets, will they be smooth after they are painted?

Your doors will be smooth but the finish we use will not fill the grain. It is extremely difficult and costly to completely fill the grain on Oak. The grain will be covered but can still be seen. ( Please see picture example below) If you want a completely flat/smooth finish we recommend getting new Maple doors and drawers.

Will you caulk around cabinet door panels?

No, we will not. The panel inside your cabinet doors is designed to move with moisture and temperature changes. In our Michigan climate they need to be able to move. In some dryer climates they can be caulked. If we were to caulk them the caulk or door may crack.

I am unsure of what color I want to paint my kitchen, do you have any suggestions?

Absolutely! We get asked a lot for color recommendations. You can choose any color in the Sherwin-Williams color palette. We also have a scanner that can match colors for you. Once you commit to having Legacy Cabinet Painting paint your cabinets, if you are still having trouble figuring out what color you would like please let us know and we can refer you to a licensed interior designer to help you pick the perfect color for your cabinets.
